Today, I am really leaning into the “Taste” of the this whole “Taste and See” blog. I want to talk about bacon. Delicious, crispy, mouth-watering bacon.
Mornings in our household are pretty routine. We wake up between 5 and 5:30 a.m. and usually workout. After the workout, we start the coffee maker and begin cooking breakfast. While breakfast is sizzling and the coffee is brewing, Colby and I go and wake up Remi around 6 a.m. Most mornings she is a very happy baby and smiles so big when she opens her eyes to see two smiling goofballs hanging over her crib. We get her out of bed and change her diaper. I will give Remi milk while my husband finishes breakfast, and then we all sit down to eat together. It really is such a sweet time with our family.
The usual breakfast is bacon, eggs, and fruit. Pretty standard. We used to just cook the bacon in a pan on the stove then crack the eggs in once the bacon was cooked. One day, when my husband started breakfast, he turned the oven on. Bold move. He then cooked the bacon in the oven. Now I had seen this done before. It wasn’t anything new, but that was never how we cooked our bacon.
My husband is a big fan of seasoning. Like really big. So when he is in charge of the meal that spice cabinet is picked through like a four year old’s nose. When it comes to bacon, he is no different. Typically the go to spice is pepper, but occasionally we have this seasoning we have only been able to find in Texas called Grub Rub and it is the most delightful seasoning to put on bacon. Anyways, we tried putting cinnamon on the bacon one morning because we were both feeling a little risky and it did not disappoint.
Which is how we discovered the most exquisite form of cooking bacon that has made my mornings a thousand times more enjoyable. So here you go:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit
Place four strips of bacon on a baking sheet
Sprinkle black pepper and cinnamon over bacon
Cook the bacon in the oven for 20 minutes
That is it. The secret to a magical morning breakfast. Cinnamon pepper oven-cooked bacon.
Getting up in the mornings can be hard. A restless night, a crying baby, no motivation for the day can all feel like rope tying you to the comfort of just staying in bed. I have had my moments of spending every day laying bed. Not changing out my PJ’s and feeling like I had no purpose. It was a dark moment for me. I learned that getting out of bed was best answer. We all have a purpose.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” Ephesians 2:10 (NIV).
God made each and every one of us for a specific purpose. Before we were even born, He had our life already planned out. The best way for us to learn what God created us to do is to get out of bed. Read the scripture and talk to God. He will lead you to where you need to be. But it has to start with doing something. Getting up in the morning is the first step. And cinnamon pepper bacon is the second.
